The follwoing images show you LuxBall scenes with normal, transparent and mirror material. Tonemapping is Reinhard, the first of every pair of images is taken after 10 seconds and the second one after 100 seconds. The scenes are always the same, only Render engine type changes.

As you can see Path and Direct produce very nice shadows but the mirror and transparent materials look bad. SPPM has problems with shadows but the Transparent and mirror materials are amazing. To get nice shadows with SPPM you just need to render a bit longer.

The Cornell box shots show Reinhard and Linear tonemapping after 140 seconds and about 100 sec Render time. You can see that the shadows are strongly present with Direct, average with Path and very low with SPPM.
