Summary0001228: Velvet material shows extreme faceting on light terminator
DescriptionSee details here: http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=81326#p81326 [^]
Additional InformationAs tomb noted, BRDF could be wrong. If solution isn't found, the proposal is to remove velvet before 1.0 final in favor for glossy multibounce.

There was a small improvement possible but the model is ok compared to the paper. The discontinuity at the terminator can't be avoided because contrary to most models there is more energy reflected at grazing angles.

So the only viable approach is to find a way to deal with the terminator issue (as was done in Indigo and Thea)?

The issue can't be fixed at the material level, it requires a geometric solution.
