Converting Skin Shaders from Cycles

Postby igall » Mon Mar 19, 2018 5:21 am

Hi,
I found beautiful skin shaders built for Cycles, like this one:
Cycles - SSS Skin Shader: http://www.undoz.com/blog/2015/9/5/cycles-sss-skin-shader.html
(The blender file is here: http://www.undoz.com/storage/blog/Blender_SSS_Skin_Shader_Undoz.com.blend.zip)
I would like to render this skin shader in Luxrender.
To do so, I pressed on "Convert Cycles Scene" in the rendering tab.
I got the warning "WARNING: Unsupported node type GROUP" but nothing seemed critical.
Afterwards, in the Materials menu, I tried to switch to xSkinSSSv4 material - and got a crash with the following plot:
Error: static node type 2 undefined
Error: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Did I do something wrong or missed any step in the conversion operation?
Does the LuxCore SDK Dev support the import of skin shaders like this one from Cycles?

Many thanks,
Igal

The automatic Cycles material conversion support only very simple Cycles materials due to the huge differences in materials used by Cycles and Lux. In this particular case, Lux has a very different way to render SSS, I think the same way has been only recently introduced in Cycles and it is called there "Random walk SSS".

This is the same model rendered with the new LuxCore (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=13485):

Someone with more artistic skill than me can better explain how to render this scene

Could you perhaps post a downloadable link to the model from which that image was rendered, so I could use it as a template?
Or to other models alike?

That would be so helpful..

Just ask on the new forum, Sharlybg, the author of the rendering is there and may be able to help you, he has also a tutorial about SSS here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDqXv6gu3ts
