Renovations

Postby hoodedmanwithsythe » Sat Jun 30, 2012 8:49 am

Hey all,
Long time no see!
Anyway's I've been busy living, but since I've got some time on my hands at the moment, I've started work on a very old project again.
So here is the clay render of the WIP.
I'll update the image once a week as I do more too it.
The reason I'm attempting such an old building is because everyone can do a modern building - they are mostly just blocks anyway.
For this project I'm working from architectural drawings that are over 80 years old, parts of the building that it is based on are over 150 years old.
This has presented a significant amount of trouble, as the drawings are incomplete and lacking in detail.
The result is that the initial mesh is a bit of a bodge containing some errors, and a number of wasted polygons as a result it will have to be retopo'd in order to get some efficiency and to make it easier to texture.

Note: This is a complete building (interior included) so there will be about 10-20 final renders from this set.

Watch this space, some awesome stuff is going to happen here.

All Windows finished now, And the land survey data has been used to provide a better representation of the surrounding land.

Next stage Reto'ing the building's shell.

Another day another angle.

Just a few things to do now:
Modelling the Guttering,
Adding additional objects,
and texturing ( Yippie! :/ ... not looking forward to this ).

Comments and critiques are always welcome!

It's a nice project. I'm very interested in how the interiors will look.

All in good time, the exterior is to be finished first.

...Speaking of which here is another test render of the first view, this time with the main walls textured and a few extra details added in for good measure.

First attempt at the roof texture, Why are there like no quality roof slate textures that look good?
I ended up painting this one from scratch (which is something I've not done in AGES!!!).

Tell me honestly, how bad does it look?
