Abizeitung Cover

Postby B.Y.O.B. » Sat May 26, 2012 9:11 am

Hi,

I recently made the cover image for the "Abizeitung" of my school (kind of a yearbook).

It was rendered with SLG2 in 2 hours on a GTX 460 1GB (2000 passes).
The background is a HDRI from openfootage.net, other textures are self-painted, from wikipedia.org or from cgtextures.com.

Very nice, although i prefer the dark one. :)

Some black outline has remained on the top edge of the foam, you can remove it in Photoshop or Gimp.

Yes, I think that are shading issues - the foam is a sculpted mesh that's set to smooth shading and that is a little bit emissive (0.8, to fake the scattering of the sunlight in the foam).

I had not much time to do this image, otherwise I would have spent more time working on details like table accessories, bubbles in the beer, drops on the outside of the glass etc.

I had to use Lux to achieve that (SSS). Maybe I will set up the scene for Lux, with different lables on the glass I could use it as a entry for the Splash Screen competition.

This is wonderful, its like taking the glass of water render to the next level, so many great details. The foam is really working well, Very interesting result, I looked at it for a long time even though its a simple glass of beer, it really IS a glass of beer.

That lion looks rather smug. :P

Is there any particular beer that it is based on?

Sure.
Maybe try to put the bavarian logo in front of the glas and try to make a volume material for a "Hefeweizen" (oder Weißbier wie man in München sagt).
Another idea: Make a brezel on the wood plate on the left, to mimic a bavarian "Brozeit" :-)

I don't think you are supposed to re-use scenes for competitions. You should double check with BinaryCortex. If you are gonna change a bunch of stuff it might be ok.

Homer: something like that, yes.

A-man: afaik I can use any scene for a competition that was created in the time frame the competition was running - not before. But you are right, if I really use these scene for my entry, I'll ask Binarycortex before.
