A hand for a Gold Material

Postby feilong78 » Wed Apr 25, 2012 8:52 am

Hi everyone!

I'd like to render a gold ring which be later be a part of a project around "The Lord of Rings" subject but i have some issues about how material work in Blender with LuxBlend.

So i made a ring and apply to it a gold material as shown here:

Image

As you can see there is a petrol effect on it and i want to erase it. And moreover, i want to give it an aspect due to the time...So for that i have this tutorial http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/Gold_material but i need some help to make the link between it and my version of Blender (2.62).

Anyway, i just want some general advices to render a beautiful gold material.

Thanks

As for example i don't clearly understand textures in Luxrender like "gold::Kr::amount" etc
Does it refers to an editable file, a slider ?

Try the gold material from the LuxRender material database??

Otherwise try the metal preset, or shiny metal with a gold colour, those are probably easier.

The image shown is the gold material picked up from the database by enabling the Luxrender Material Database

It looks like the coating effect is way too strong, could you post the scene here? There might be something wrong with the scale.

I think too you have a scale issue, the material look like this by me :
gold.png
gold.png (60.97 KiB) Viewed 1298 times

(or like this with a more complexe scene : gallery2.php?g2_itemId=19009 )
Try to have 1meter = 1BU

Hi everyone!

I fixed the problem by setting the reflection color texture to gold::Kr and by setting the specular color texture to gold::Kr also. I also changed my ring but i have another problem.
I would like to make a unique ring from the Lord of Rings, so i have two textures corresponding to the inner and outer inscriptions on the ring in black & white.
So i want to do a vector displacement map to affect the geometry of the ring by mapping these two textures...

I make two UV maps by the use of seams and so i want to map the textures on it and after i would like to set an influence (vector displace)

Can somebody help to do that?

Ok so in luxrender i can use microdisplacement and using Cycles i can use True Displacement (http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2 ... splacement)

But know i have to deal with the correct integration of this things

You can use true displacment with LuxRender as well, just sue the 'loop' subdivision scheme. Combine that with a bump/normal map for more detail without being memory intensive.
