Certainly the Cpu usage has flattened out at the top of the graph now(for Cpu only anyway) and the speed increase appears corresponding (1-3%) (8 thread i7-2600k, 1920x1080).

Likewise with outlier rejection at 5, there is roughly a 20% improvment (with a large mirror suzanne and area light in the scene).

Lord Crc wrote:Yes I've thought about something like this, and may implement it. It will cost a wee bit of speed, but I'll have to see just how bad it is. Or just go for vertical slabs instead as most people will render wide images.

However a 540 pixel high image (1080 @ 50%) can support at least 32 "tiles" under normal circumstances, which should be enough for 16 threads. Using horizontal slabs should be better cache wise, though to which extent I don't know yet.

Oh, then maybe we don't have to worry about this yet. :D Thanks again for the awesome improvement!

And on Hybrid Path with outlier rejection it's somewhere around 800%.

Me too!
I'm very sad...
I've tried to install python 3.1 and it didn't solve.

For the ones who can run luxblend...is it possible to know what blender version and if you have python installed and which version?
Thanks in advance.

2.61 official works for me, and I have not installed python 3.1, nor should you be required to.

Hello
After installation new testing version I've noticed that hybrid bi-dir and hybrid path modes doesn't work for me at all. I get error:
[2012-02-13 19:42:32 Debug: 0] [LuxRays] [OpenCL device::GeForce GTX 560Intersect] Rendering thread ERROR: clEnqueueNDRangeKernel(CL_OUT_OF_RESOURCES)
using default Blender's scene. Switching to non-hybrid solves problem. With bit earlier test release from 20120119 hybrid works without problems.
I've attached logs from both Luxrender's releases.
I'm on w7 64bit, 16GB ram, intel i7, nvidia geforce gtx560, Blender 2.61 (r42615) 64bit official release, Luxblend from latest Luxrender (opencl 64) build.

thanx

This error message means your graphics card doesn't have enough RAM for the scene. Judging by your card I'd guess you have 1gb RAM, which is generally not too helpful on scenes with many polygons.

Try playing with your QBVH stack depth settings and your workgroup size settings. Even though your GPU doesn't have the memory requirements needed to render your scene, you can later the settings so that Lux doesn't try to access more memory than it has.

Arguably, lowering your workgroup size to a value as little as '8' can get it to work. You might sacrifice some speed, but you should be able to still harness the advantages your GPU can offer for your renderings. There's also some suggestions floating around the board that suggest one should lower their QBVH stack depth settings without altering the workgroup size. I haven't personally found that to be successful in my scene that have a lot of polygons in them. But, you might be luckier than I was.

Good luck.

thanx for tips, i'll try them. hovewer i'm bit surprised, that only one small box/light/camera with total 24 vertex in scene is too big for 1GB gpu while the same card could render sponza atrium without problems in previous build

thanx
