chambre_piscine_008.Scene.00054.pinky chair 16h.jpg

This was supposed to be a final image, Because this view of the scene isn't supposed to change in the future...
However, I didn't post it in the finished works, neither in the gallery since it's still grainy after 16 hours of computing on a i7 2600k (traditional sampler). There is a 64 m3 volume of water hanging uppon the camera, so I guess this is what slows it up that much and happens to let the image with still lot of unpolished reflections...

I couldn't tweak the lens effects or noise reduction since the lux window just dissapeared after a certain number of hours (the computer was left alone since I was out, so it's not because I was using the computer to do funny stuff while computing).
I'm now running an hybrid path render to make a little comparison, but I guess this method just will give me more fireflies-like reflections.

I'm open to any suggestions technical/graphical

Edit : Forgot to credit http://www.flyingarchitecture.com for their wonderful 3D models free library.
The three types of chairs ( Ball chair, Eames chair, LC1 chair) were taken from there as obj / 3ds depending on models. I just cleaned them in blender.

is it a wip or a nip=noob in progress

seriously, i like the idea and the lighting.... the pool water looks too stormy.
i'm not sure about.... probably the render is so slow because it's like to render an underwater scene.... but that's just my thought.

LOL

Maybe it's both !

Yeah I'll try it with calmer water...I made a close shot and the waves are so strong it nearly seems able for sure.
I'll also make another try with no water or just a thin volume of it to see how it affects speed...

Water volume doesn't look quite right, too clear, maybe? Btw, if you are using the homogeneous volume for the water (and you should), don't forget to change your volume integrator to single. That will help it clear up a lot faster.

Love the colors, btw.

Hey Jason,

Thanks for your advice, since I begun the render since less than one hour I'll be trying your adjustment right away.
I'll let you know soon about it !

Wonderful scene! :o I can only second Jason for the colors. And thanks for the link, they have some really nice models there.

i think that an external light is missing, lights that creates proper caustics with the pool's water.... also visible in the room

Hey again,

Jason>Unfortunately the new settings didn't change the computing speed. The only thing that actually changed, is the shape of the shadows, maybe because they are dealt with another way.
SATtva>Thanks :)
patro> You noob ! Yes that's right, there is no exterior lighting, to be honest I just turn off the whole layer to gain computing speed. (on Indigo they say rendering time is evenly distributed between layers, even when you turn them off, so since my render became much slower since I made groups, I guess it's the same, right ?).
However, to get good caustics it's quite the opposite of environment light I nee : you need very small light sources (according to the luxrender wiki tutorial). Also the other problem is that there are 5 meters between the wavy surface of the water and the ground....and the more the ground is distant from the water surface the more blurred are the caustics...(you can see on the top of the chair which is higher, caustics are more neat).

I'll be computing some new images soon !

Using single won't increase the sampling speed a whole lot, but it will make the noise go away with a lot fewer samples.

Btw, if you have the water volume as homogeneous, if you set the scattering scale just right, you will be able to see the light rays hanging in the water:

kinda like that^

Gotcha on that !

For the scattering, sure I'd like to got that kind of wonderful effect. I'll be tweaking around that scattering scale stuff to see !

Thanks for the tip !
