LuxRender Render Settings Presets

Postby Meelis » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:59 pm

Hi

I was thinking we need topic to post our favorite LuxRender render settings presets.
So we can discuss what is good for what and what is overkill in some case.
Like x264 encoder gui's have a lot presets (megui, ripbot264).

Then we may add them to exporters

My latest discovery was MLT "float largemutationprob"
Till yesterday i thought valu 0.1 = nice caustics.
Then i figured let's go crazy and turned it to 0.01  WOW how nice is that.

So i guess it's pretty good preset for caustics (tested it in 0.9 dev 2011 December 05)
i think shadowrays ain't used in that version.

Code: Select all
Renderer "sampler"

Sampler "metropolis"
   "float largemutationprob" [0.010000000000000]
   "bool usevariance" ["false"]
   "integer maxconsecrejects" [11264]

Accelerator "qbvh"
   "integer maxprimsperleaf" [4]
   "integer fullsweepthreshold" [16]
   "integer skipfactor" [1]

SurfaceIntegrator "path"
   "integer maxdepth" [176]
   "float rrcontinueprob" [0.99]
   "string rrstrategy" ["probability"]
   "bool includeenvironment" ["true"]
   "string lightstrategy" ["all"]
   "integer shadowraycount" [1]

I've debating overhauling/cleaning up the LuxBlend25 render presets, so get those suggestions going. You could make it into LuxBlend. :)

This works pretty well for animations. If you've got the time and are having some nice issues, change the pixel samples to 256:

Code: Select all
Renderer "sampler"

Sampler "lowdiscrepancy"
   "integer pixelsamples" [128]
   "string pixelsampler" ["tile"]

Accelerator "qbvh"

SurfaceIntegrator "path"
   "integer maxdepth" [2]
   "float rrcontinueprob" [0.649999976158142]
   "string rrstrategy" ["efficiency"]
   "bool includeenvironment" ["true"]
   "bool directlightsampling" ["true"]

VolumeIntegrator "emission"
   "float stepsize" [1.000000000000000]

PixelFilter "gaussian"

For luxblend i'd suggest the default MD subdiv setting be 50 (rather than 2).

Atm, that control is shared between loop and micro displacement, hence the default of 2. Since loop at 50 would level pretty much all computers.

EDIT: Not anymore!! 8-) http://src.luxrender.net/luxblend25/rev/758abbc557ae

largemutationprob 0.01 appears to be madness to finish caustics, though large mutations look more booring :)
For sure there is problem with high path depth 176.
