so I can't use displacement for this competition?
And if people download the material they won't get the displacement setting?

maybe this isn't the right place for the question.
but is there a plan to support displacement with the LBM2 file in the future?

IMHO I tend to think that displacement being part of the mesh panel, it is not a property tied to materials, but to the mesh. So it would be rather strange to have it in material database (although I agree, some materials are somehow meant to be used with microdisplacement in order to look good :) )

Developpers might proove I'm wrong though. :?:

I know that currently the displacement is a mesh option.
But just like you said, I think a material database that support displacement is much more convenient.
And also this is the case for many other un-biased renderer.

I think the micro-displacement can really help sell the power of the renderer

Can we reuse old renders?
For example I would like to upload my "dusty air"-material (nothing special, but I can imagine that beginners have a hard time fiddling out the right values) and I have already rendered this scene: gallery2.php?g2_itemId=16652
Would it be allowed to just post this ready-rendered image again? Would save me a lot of time and electricity... ;)

Once again,
You may use any scene you wish to showcase your material/texture.
So, i guess there are no restrictions.

As J the Ninja said:

J the Ninja wrote:Oh, and the best thing you all can do to help these get sorted properly is to post the name and maybe a test-render of your entry here, so I know to put it over here: http://www.luxrender.net/lrmdb2/en/cate ... al/view/46

That or follow rule #10. :P

My entry:

Material 1: Rigid Cloth

Material 2: Woofer
This material isn't for the competition, because uses microdisplacement.
