I don't know much about icons, but might make for an interesting competition? Only problem is they might not all be of the same quality. Still, i'm sure a lot of people would get a kick out of seeing their icon in lux.

JtheNinja, I agree that the blue icons are a bit of a 'sore thumb', but I think the yellow looks bad on the network icon. I think you could get away with a green/blue earth if you stick to slightly pale colours so as not to have them stick out, but it still gets the point across. If I didn't know the yellow ball was an earth from seeing the blue one, I never would have guessed.

Interesting for sure, but I think it will become a headache and in general I'd take a design by one dedicated person with proper feedback over some combination of voted in elements any day. One of the hardest parts in the design will be to create a coherent whole and that will be very hard to achieve when there is no single person taking charge.

Good point, and I must admit I agree with you. Was just thinking out loud :)

Thought I'd keep people up to date on this:

We settled some time ago in IRC on the "final" (for now) version (it looks similar to the yellow mockup, but with a gray log icon), I've sent the png's to carbonflux, who'll be including them in his next round of GUI updates, iirc.
