On the upside, if you kept the notebook on your lap you will save on child support down the line ;)

Fantastic renderer. If you do find the blender file and you are allowed (model rights) to publish them it would be very interesting to see what tricks we could use to speed up the render.
Have you seen the link (viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2977) where the blend file can be downloaded? I think I removed the layer with the background, added the one with the 3 light sources and that's it (with standard bidir MLT). And not to forget the camera rotation.

I may try to find and upload it when I have too much free time (where you can see the exact properties).

Tell me what you think about it,

I absolutely love it. You make my day.
I deleted some things before packaging the file, one of them was a circular animation of a camera that was exactly at the height of my eyes, to see how it would feel to look at this car from my height. My render was very quick and low resolution so this one is much better.

Really loved to see this video.

Seems the link is broken. I will take a look and port the scene to the new luxrender and new blender. I remember I ported it
to luxrender 0.7 and the carpaint code was "enhanced" and I could not achieve the same look that the carpaint in 0.60 so I stopped the conversion
to 0.7. But now I will spend time this weekend to port it and will post here and in the original thread.
I am curious now if we will find a much quicker way to render it with similar quality in last luxrender builds.

That is just beautiful. You just can't fault it. I mean, the modelling, textures, lighting and effort are all amazing.

Definately a new benchmark

Well, I posted the new file. Using blender 2.59 and luxrender 0.9dev (in 0.8 probably carpaint will be wrong).
As the file opens and you click render, if you wait for 200 samples per pixel rendertime is 2 hours for a 1920x1080 picture. This would need 1 month to render 360 images in my quad core.

(The link to the file is in first post of this thread)

This indeed is the crazyest thing that I ever saw, a year for 14 seconds of render, I have no words, I would never do sutch a thing, the energy that you had spend on this time by only rendering that was abusrd like the one year rendering thing.
The quality is good and im a noob on this matter but I saw real time renderizations that had almost the same quality sorry man I really think that this time that you spent was totally absurd, its good, the image is clean but, well everyone with his crazy stuff!
Congratulations but if I where you I would content myself with a single image. argh an years is way too mutch!
