Need a realistic rough metal texture

Postby avalys » Wed Jul 27, 2011 7:38 pm

I need to replicate a rough metal texture in LuxRender. Approximately the appearance of the lead in this photo:

I have not found an NK file for lead, but I assume the one for tin will appear approximately the same. The bigger issue I am having is how to replicate the somewhat randomly-scuffed surface of the metal. Everything I try comes out looking way too regular. This component is a fairly large part of the scene I am rendering, so it really stands out if it looks artificial.

I am using LuxRender 0.7.1, although I can upgrade if absolutely necessary. Any suggestions for something to try?

It is likely best to use a u - v roughness texture to the metal,
I have had nice results with this before
