Simple Morning (Simple is Beautiful WIP)

Postby Kira Vakaan » Mon Jun 13, 2011 10:22 pm

Hi all,

This is my second crack at a one of the great competitions here on these forums, and really, my second crack at LuxRender, for that matter. :P

Here's what I have so far-- still very much WIP:
Test.png

This one was baked to 1.66 kS/p.

I'm going for a nice dew drop hanging off of a piece of grass. The drop is off to the left because I haven't come up with exactly what I'm going to fill the right with. :) If I can't come up with something nice, I'll center the camera more, but part of me kinda likes the off-center look. Any crits or comments are welcome!

Thanks! :)

Here's an update cooked to only 123.02 S/p:

I might even dare to call this scene and film setup final, unless someone has any groundbreaking suggestions. :P I'm all ears!

I really like this scene.
The mood and the lighting are perfect, you nearly can feel the wet dew on the grass... :)

It would only be nice when the leaf was a bit sharper.
And I think the dewdrop on the right would be more "flattened" in reality ;) (not a perfect sphere).

Wow, thanks for all of the kind words, everyone. :) It's wonderful that you all like it.

I let this go through last night and so here's 3.51 kS/p:

Hmm, I'll play around with lightening up the DOF a tad. Luckily we've got a long time before the deadline and this scene renders fast enough. :)
And I think you might be right about the droplet. Looking at some more photos, they do start flattening out at around that size. I tried deforming the sphere a bit at the base to account for the water tension at this scale, but I guess it's hard to tell. I'll see what I can do and thanks for the crit!
