I think the blend (or similar source) could be available on the website as a separate download, mentioned in a readme.txt file or similar. While nice, it shouldn't be required.

Thanks for pointing that minor oversight out to me. It has been corrected in the rules.
8. Final submissions must be posted to the corresponding competition gallery, scene files must be provided. Please post them here.

JtheNinja, please post a link back to your thread where you posted the files.

I think that's a great idea. I would like to suggest linking to this topic from the readme.txt file. That way, not only could the user get the winning blend file (which will be appended to the main post I think) but also they would have all the other scenes to download and check out as well.

Is this here the right place to place the scene- and blendfiles in?

Sorry, maybe it was B.Y.O.B. that needed to post the link here.

This are all files of my example scene "School Corridor" in one zip-file (contains the .blend, size: 509 KB).
A 1.5kS/px-render is uploaded to the competition gallery.

edit: I hope it doesn't matter that my testscene uses the camera response function (preset file).
edit2:
4. The example scene should be something a new user loads up and gets something meaningful out of in the course of 10-15 minutes.

I think I can present many of LuxRender's benefits in this scene:
  • Instancing (for example the ceiling lights, but many of the items are instanced)
  • Lightgroups (Sun+Sky and ceiling lights)
  • Use of procedural textures (e.g. the floor)
  • Bump mapping (floor)
  • Architectural glass
  • Indirect lighting (e.g. color bleeding)
  • Various postpro (bloom etc.) can easily be tested
  • Some great materials (though there are no translucent ones): metals (nk-files), glossy- and matte-materials and meshlights

New since this list was created:
  • Homogenous world medium (dusty air)
  • The camera response function
List of supported features.

Blender Source (note: unmodified LuxBlend 2.5 exporter will currently not create instances here -- exported scene was created with a patched version creating instances unconditionally)
Edit: current version of LuxBlend does now include a mesh instance hinting option. Thanks to dougal for including this feature!
