### Re: SU2LUX Exporter for Sketchup 0.1-dev

Hello,

I tried exporting with SU2LUX last night with a fairly complex 3D model, 13.5meg 150,000 faces , and I keep getting this error in the Ruby Console:

I'm using SU 7.1.6860, WinXPx32, and LuxRender .7

"export_file_path_button"
Error: #<TypeError: reference to deleted Attribute>
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux/LuxrenderAttributeDictionaries.rb:33:in each'
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux/LuxrenderAttributeDictionaries.rb:36:in include_key?'
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux/LuxrenderAttributeDictionaries.rb:107:in map_object_value'
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux.rb:242:in new_export_file_path'
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux/LuxrenderSettingsEditor.rb:333:in call'
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux/LuxrenderSettingsEditor.rb:70:in initialize'

Here is the error I get when I try to export and convert:

Error: #<TypeError: cannot convert nil into String>
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux/LuxrenderExport.rb:23:in basename'
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux.rb:122:in new'
C:/Program Files/Google/Google SketchUp 7/Plugins/su2lux.rb:168:in export_dialog'

If I try exporting and rendering the default SU model with only Bryce in the scene everything works fine...

Can anyone help me sort out those errors? Thank you!
Robsan

Is the Sketchup exporter abandoned? Any chance for the status of the development?

Hi cyb and everybody else on the board.
I'm been away from SU2LUX development for a long time because of a bunch of reasons (moved my office to another venue, did a full renovation by myself, etc).
At the moment, I'm run an Ubuntu box only and Sketchup is not so user friendly to use and code into. Trying to solve all the issues asap. We'll see

Let's wait to hear something from lfrisken or exvion in order to know if they are still involved into development in silent mode.

Anyway, the project is not dead, at least in my mind

Hi mimhotep.
I am glad that you looked at the forum. Thank you for your contribution to the development SU2LUX.

Hi everybody.
I have some code in SU2YafaRay, which could include SU2LUX, but it will not work because of recent changes made lfrisken.
I appreciate the work done lfrisken, but it is my opinion that should not have to push into the main repository of their experimental achievements.
Alternatively, I can make a fork of this project and put it on github.

I would like to get advice on how to proceed in this situation.

Hi,

You could also create a branch in the current repository (starting at your preferred changeset) and push your work. Then anybody interested can try to merge both works.

I can merge the changes for you exvion
I am planning to get to work on su2lux again, but I've got around 3 more weeks left of school and then final exams
So I need to work hard at that for a while, but after, su2lux is really back on the agenda. In the meantime, I do have time to do a merge, because it is holidays... Hopefully the changes you've made aren't mutually exclusive

Hi. I just found this plugin, and it is very very interesting. Is there any page describing what can be done and can't be done with the current version? If not I suppose I just have to read through all the threads here. I will still try to get some quick answers to my questions:

* Does it handle curved surfaces?
* Which material properties are supported. Colour for sure. What about
- textures?
- opacity?

Is there any trick to make something reflective or shiny in current version?

I'm looking forward to future versions

Hi lubbe75,
I'm afraid to say that a full descriptive page about the exporter does not exit, yet. You can refer to this for a rough list of implemented features.

I will still try to get some quick answers to my questions:
* Does it handle curved surfaces?

SU2LUX exports Sketchup geometry as a list of triangles, so everything, including curves, work out of the box. If you need to use the NURBS primitive in LuxRender, well, you can't.
* Which material properties are supported. Colour for sure. What about
- textures?
- opacity?

You just discovered colors Textures are exported as well, but only diffuse maps are used. No support in the current version for other kinds of maps, such as bump, Wrt opacity, when you set it in a Sketchup material then it is exported as glass, but with no control by the user. The exporter lacks a material editor at this stage of development
Is there any trick to make something reflective or shiny in current version?

Besides manually editing your material (.lxm) file?

You can find the latest version in the repository, here:
