object motion blur help

Postby bhodges » Tue May 03, 2011 1:09 am

Hi everyone, I'm a new user of LuxRender via luxblend25 and would like some help getting object motion blur to work. Currently, I am able to see motion blur caused by an animated camera, but I can not get any animated objects to show motion blur with the same camera settings. Thank you in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

If this functionality is not currently supported by luxblend25, I would appreciate anyone who could explain how to modify the lxs file directly to support object motion blur after the scene is exported from luxblender25. Again thanks for any help and to everyone for their part in developing such a great renderer.

I can confirm that it does not work. Didn't it used to?

Thank you for confirming this Lord Crc. I don't have any experience with earlier versions of the exporter so I can't say whether or not it used to work. I'll repeat my request from anyone reading this for help or suggestions on how to edit the lxs file manually to support motion blur on objects.

This may have come about due to recent changes in lb25. There have been increasing and almost conflicting opinions/suggestions regarding the handling of instanced objects (motion blur requires instancing), so it is possible that a change made to support some other behaviour has broken the motion blur part. I will take a look and try to verify/fix the problem soon.

(A side note to others; you see now why I'm reluctant to even slightly 'tweak' the geometry handling code ;) )

I've just pushed a fix for motion blur. It works for me, can others please test it? :)

I just tested the fix and can confirm that it works for me. It's great to see such a quick response.

One thing that doesn't seem to work is blurring based on armature animation. Is this something that is supposed to be supported? If not, it would be great to have this functionality. I say this but I'm sure that the developers, like you dougal2, are already keenly aware of its value. As a new user, I just want to express my eagerness to have such functionality and a genuine curiosity in what's involved in seeing it implemented.
