CONTEST :: LuxRender V0.5 Splash :: CLOSED

Postby GustavTheMushroom » Wed Jun 11, 2008 9:03 am

Edit: Comp is now closed!

Hey Peeps!

As all of you know (or should know) LuxRender V0.5 Is coming out soon!

And we need a splash screen! (this is where you come in).

We need something snazzy and great looking yet technical to show of lux with.

There are only a few Rules and they are simple:

Image MUST be 1000x600px
Submissions close Friday midnight (20/06/2008 24:00 paris time)

//End rules

Some things we'd like to see:
Abstract works showing the ability of Lux technically.
Realistic works showing the ability of Lux practically(?).
And Maybe even a good mix of the two if you can pull it off.

Just to get you started.
Final submissions should be posted here.
I suggest any of you wishing to submit WIPs to submit those over in the WIP forum.
All submissions will be voted upon PUBLICLY in another post I will create once the submissions close.

This render by DCO will be our fall back render (You'll have a chance to vote don't worry) This will be included in the final submissions.
This render is good but doesn't showcast Lux's new features etc. Just to give you a bit of an idea of what we hope for:

Image

All clear?

Any Questions feel free to ask!

Now... Go!

P.S. Oh and did I mention the winner gets his splash used in the v0.5 release?

EDIT: Deadline has been extended due to delays with the 0.5 release. You now have till the 16th (06/2008)!

I think Radiance should submit his Voronite dishes.. that pattern seems very "trademark" of 0.5 (I'm using it a lot for testing too).

i'm not sure i can submit anything at all since i'm %200 busy getting v0.5 ready for sunday :)
the voronite dishes are not that good, the front dish is nice, but the whole scene is rather lacking in artistic quality imo...

i'll be submitting another weekly CVS build with more bugfixes and feats tonight :)

Quit complaining and whip something up! lol.

Now now, be careful, or Radiance might stop doing builds this frequently. And we dont want that! lol.

What kind of system are you on?
PPC or Intel?
10.4 or 10.5?

Are you familiar with compiling? MacPorts? Etc. - or are you more the artistic type?

You can *try* one of the builds I've been working on...
http://homepage.mac.com/jimsander

They require various MacPorts installed libraries though. If you don't have them, it's not going to work for you right now.

If you can try them, please let me know how it goes. There's a definite shortage of Mac users right now.

I might have a try at this but I need to sit down and have a look at StructureSynth first, as I have something of an idea for it. (Btw Dade, thanks for all the help, unfortunately it seems my laptop is too much of a weakling to attempt to deal with it :( )

I'll try to remember to do something with it on the PC tomorrow.

with macport is it than using the X11 system ?

in case yes - how is the speed to a native win build?

I noticed that the win builds for yafaray are slower than the osx builds
i was using.

Hi guys,

It would be cool if jim could recompile a current version for mac users,
as those builds he made are a bit lagging in our recent bugfixes :)
