It's better to have the poll here be the reference, however it'll be interesting to see how the results compare to the gallery result. If they are comparable, then we might consider using the gallery for future votings.

I admit I was surprised just a bit at the number of entires and their quality, this is a good sign imo.

ya, I miss the fund raising link but I guess I understand some of the issues involved.

Also I think at some point microfunding will be interesting to investigate, ie...

Older link I admit, there was a new startup that was doing something interesting with this in the last few months but i don't have the link handy, anyway, I think the basic idea will be important long term.

Another thing I want to say is that I don't think any member of the core luxrender community would mismanage a funding flow, there are much better ways to make money than scam a FOSS project. While I think the foundation idea is a good one I would not have a problem sending money to any of the project leaders and trusting them to use this money for the benefit of the project.

I tend to see myself as a cynical person but one of the evil tricks I learned managing software development projects is that the worst thing you can do to a person is trust them in just the right way. Even the most cynical person will not betray that right kind of sneaky trust.

Just to give a example that imo relates to most people involved in FOSS, say I gave LordCrc ( sorry to pick on you but I betting your sense of humor is complex enough to forgive this example and take it as a complement... ) a million euros and said "spend this money to help luxrender" how many people think he would betray this trust? Not counting trolls my guess is zero.

There really are ethical people in this world and this project has more than its share of them.
