addition to light groups (?)

Postby patro » Fri Dec 17, 2010 6:48 am

Hi all,

I have a question.... I don't know if this argument was just spoken out... anyway...
could it be possible to add to light groups a drop down menu to call for each listed light... for example different lampspectrum?

Hi,

I'm not sure I understand the question, but I guess the answer is no. Could you give a bit more details?

Jeanphi

sure... and thank you for the interest.

well at time - in light group - we can play with the color, with the blackbody setting and the intensity of the layered light source.
we also not only have the blackbody as texture for light material or as emissive texture, we have the lampspectrum texture.
so... could it be possible to have the different lamp-spectrum settings as option in light group like the blackbody or the color piker or the intensity slider?
if you want I can prepare an image to explain better what I mean. no problem.

Hi,

I then confirm the no, somewhat (I actually suspected that this was your question). The light groups do not replace the emission spectrum, they just tweak the resulting RGB color like any image processing tool would be able to do. So to give a bit more detail, it's not possible to really use the spectrum of a given light source, but, the GUI could provide a list of RGB presets matching some known illuminants.

as always thank you Jeanphi to be so kind and interested in any question.

now it's interesting to know what LordCrc think about to add this RGB color emulation of the lampspectrum texture as option to the GUI since he hacked manually all cfrs files :)
anyway.... will see and ask directly.

When it comes to color reproduction I'll defer to jeanphi, as it's not an area I've studied in great detail.

I also think this would be less useful that you may think, as the details of the spectra are lost before the colors are added to the film. Thus you'd most likely miss out on the nice and subtle effects that you get from using the lamp spectra.

OK!
thank you for the answer.
to bad that the real lampspectrum presets can't in anyaway loaded.
anyway...

With GPU assisted rendering it will become more feasible to do these changes real-time, so I think that will cover most of what you want from this suggestion. So one just has to wait a bit :)

interesting is how a non constructive discussion could be one
so it seams that real-time is coming! cool
what about sppm? is the integration of the code near by to be completed?
please give us some info about the development status...
