Founding of the jeanphi-fan club

Postby RenderWilli » Thu Jun 17, 2010 5:35 pm

Hi all,

I hereby would like to open officially the first jeanphi-fan club.

Requests for membership in this thread appreciated.

There will be interesting shared activities such as singing the official anthem of jeanphi and of course first time composing it.

We will also provide interesting cooking classes for geeks in the club program. One part of the cooking is "The mystery of the instant soup - Is there life after glutamate?".

The first official act, I propose that we locate his residence and then organize a yearly pilgrimage there.

Have a nice Friday,
RenderWilli (from Schland)

I feel like I should say more about this, I think I am someone who can understand both the "dev" and the "art" side of this, what "we" are doing here is creating "reality," turning information into physical simulation and even into physical reality, for me a render is very physical.

I was talking to LordCrc about the fact that the PBRT group wanted to send him a free copy of their book, he seemed to be projecting guilt about this because of the cost of the book, this paradox made me think a lot about how few people out of the billions of people alive that are working on this in FOSS context. Only a FOSS based simulator can really get at the honesty factor, without peer review a render is not unbiased imo.

Normally I tend to be totally against putting sentient beings upon a pedestal, to me its a form of insult, elevating one person. Yet at the same time I think its important to acknowledge beings who work out of pure interest to advance a technology which I see as the true power behind culture in the 20th and 21st century.

The ideas generated by artists in the early 20th century were the root of culture, perception is reality is what we learned.

Now we are learning that reality is information.

This is very important, we are in the middle of a important movement in art, we can't see it from inside normally, but perhaps this is a chance to acknowledge it.

Ok, I had a drink to much last Thursday and I was in a very funny mood.
What I meant was: I like the style, how jeanphi handles things, that's all.
It was not project related, although I have written it in this forum.

project related note:
The project is great, the people are nice and it is good to have all that.
Keep up the good work!

Wheeeee! ^____^

Dunno why, for me jeanphi brings up an association with Jamie Hyneman from MythBusters. Maybe that he's always calm and reasonable... :)

Walrus mustache for the win! SATtva, you get Mythbusters in Siberia?

I too, am a big fan of Jean-Philippe and the rest of the devs as well as some of the artists here. They act quickly and their kung fu is impressive. When i found the problem with plymesh importing during the 0.6 beta period it was fixed within three days. Actually jeanphi fixed it in like 3 hours and 15 minutes. Then LordCrc had a win version for me within 3 hours of my asking. And a quick google search has just revealed that jeanphi has also contributed bug fixes to the greatest media player of all time, VLC. Yes, I too would like to be a member.
