[REQ] FLOPS

Postby Meelis » Tue Jun 15, 2010 4:48 am

Hi

Is it possible to create new info in statistics that measures computations done in FLoating point Operations?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLOPS
Maybe lux can run FLOPS benchmark in the start of rendering and multiply the data with time and cpu's use with some interval.

And maybe all statistics might be saved as comment inside default.png

May I ask what you want this number for?

The problem is that it's going to be exceedingly difficult to get any real-world meaningful number, given the sheer amount of code that uses floating point operations in lux. Thus the best one can do is to run a short benchmark, but that will only be indicative of the raw CPU speed (which you can get from other sources) and not indicative of the actual performance of lux.
May contain traces of nuts.

That's true quick search about render device speed is easy,
but to have this data displayed in realtime is somewhat cool, especially with multiple rendering devices in network (GPU/CPU's).

:D a little horsepower thingie like who has bigger d***, that shows your hardware power and simulation work done on specific render
or your commitment for growing your baby / tuning your toy.

I thought the raw power of device = 100% device use by software app, my mistake :)
