Hi all,
I think that after the great start of perpixel,
now it's just time to open a new thread for the materials.
For better understanding LuxRender mat in 3ds max......
please post the materials, tips&tricks and request here.

I'll see if I can add LBM support real quick and I also thought about doing a custom material where you can copy a material strings and param from a blender export or something. Remember that most material params are incomplete. Matte is pretty final.

that's sound very cool ;)
the same feature like in maxigo
LBM support for direct importing in 3ds max,
custom material where you can copy a material strings and param from a blender export or something.
I think that glass mat and metal are the most important.
I have a question would it possible to set up a material by simply calling up a *.nk data file or *.ior file and *.r2?
http://deeppixel.uw.hu/projects/NK_materials.html
the nk data files work fine in indigo but the nk for transparent materials want work correctly.
the ior files work fine in maxwell for all type of mat, transparent and metallic
the r2 file are very interesting for making fast, silk material and glossy rough material in maxwell
by using this kind of files it would by possible to create fast very realistic materials.
let me know if you need a few r2 and ior file, I will send it as PM.
jinj
Ps: I'm sending a PM to Radiance to ask if the named file works with luxrender.

Hi,

nk files currently only work with the metal material, so you can use any file but you won't get the transmission part. I have a plan to support any nk file with transmission, but I would first like to add support for attenuation inside arbitrary shapes.
I hadn't heard of those r2 files, what are they for? Is there a spec available so that we can add support for them in the core? Maybe you could create tasks in Mantis http://www.luxrender.net/mantis for features you'd like to see?

hi, I try but I can't login in mantis.
a request feature for luxrender is one like "Fryrender Swap" at
http://www.randomcontrol.com/index.php? ... &Itemid=88
you can download a video to see what it do.
well the r2 files have name like "76-0.r2" when I open the file whit an text editor the only what I find inside is the text "76-0".
*.r2 file are fired up from the ior slot of the maxwell material. Probably the core of maxwell recognize the small code 76-0 and automatically create the silk effect.
I have a small portable software called "rgb to nk.exe" that can edit nk files and convert it from/to ior, but I never try to convert the diamond.ior file in diamond.nk and look if it run correctly.

Hi,

You need to register in mantis to have access, there's no automatic account creation from the forum account yet.

You're not asking for the easiest feature first. I had already seen this SWAP technology and it's pretty awesome, but I might have an idea on how they do it :)
