Problems with the bump map

Postby giuliettanice » Thu Jun 21, 2012 9:01 am

Hello everybody,
I have some problems with the bump map in Luxblend. I installed Blender 2.59 and Luxrender 0.8.
I put the black and white bump using the Type "Image or movie" and the Luxrender texture. I left Greyscale and in the Wrapping space I selected "UV" but when I opened the window for placing the texture on the object in the correct way, the bump wasn't in the list of texture and so I couldn't select it.
In the Material panel I placed the bump in the correct space and I increased the bump value, but the object results black as you can see in the attached image. I think that the problem is the UV wrapping but I don't know how to solve it.
Is there anyone that can help me, please? Thanks.

What bump value are you using? Normally a value like .01 is about right. That look can come if its too tall. What do you mean "the bump map wasn't in the list of textures", but you said later you were able to attach it? Could you post a screenshot of where it should be?

Be aware that usually 1 Blenderunit = 1 meter, so set the bump value appropriately and check if your models are of the right scale.
1.0 would be 1 meter, 0.1 = 10cm, 0.01 = 1cm etc.

I was using 0.03 as bump value in the material panel, but changing it into 0.001 it got better, thanks. However the bump is not in the right position because I can't wrap the object on the texture since I can't select the bump in the wrapping window. In particular my bump is called "tex" and if you look at the attached image, you can see that the voice "tex" doesn't appear in the list of the possible textures.

Yeah, you have to load it separately. (or, alternately, use Blender's image texture instead. In the 1.0RC version of the exporter you can still adjust gamma/gain and such even when using blender image, plus it auto-detects whether it should be grayscale or color)

Thank you very much. Using Blender's images texture it seems to work, I thought that I could use this method only for colored textures not for bump because there isn't the distinction between color and greyscale and I was afraid that the color of bump could be seen.
What do you mean with "load it separately"?

Sorry, you're right. As you can see with your help there is a big difference from the first render :)
There is noise in the scene because it is really slow to render..
The result is good
