Hi Patro,

I've tried everything.

filters, editing materials, different metal materials, using 0.8 as well as 1.0 rc1.
I tried Cpu vs Gpu

My conclusion is that this is just a limitation of lux.

Here is the same scene with IRAY. There is some subtle slight aliasing, but not nearly as bad.

I guess the only way you can blur the edges of the highlight is to use a large box filter or a large gaussian filter that nearly resemble a box filter. However you will end with a very blurred rendered image.

You could try another route to solve the problem: instead of using a perfect mirror surface, you could use a slightly glossy surface in order to blur a bit only the reflection.

well the iray is good on antialias some shapes reflection and visible worse on other...
i'm sure iray has some setting that do the same for the quality of the image lowering of course the speed.
btw... i'm not sure... but isn't iray a gpu render? while hybrid is cpu/gpu of course slower but more complete and able.

here is my try with hybrid.....
luxtest02 path max depth 24 lowdiscrepancy 24 gaussian default
Image

luxtest02 metropolis 24 rest default gaussian default
Image

this is for who have some input on how to make better look the image, maybe Dade you know for sure a better setting.

Edited:
if i would add some tiny bloom, almost imperceptible, i would got a perfect image without to blur it to much...

don't know were is right to report this... but in 3ds max 2013 the maps are not displayed in viewport. the materials aren't displayed right, like the transparency.

Hi,

Regarding aliasing, it looks like the Lux version is using a perfect mirror material while the IRAY version is using a highly glossy but not perfect mirror material. Try that with Lux and you should get equivalent results.

i've used shinymetal for the test with lux, so to show Vertigo that it's still possible to get a better result also on a mirror like material by refining the max depth.

I'll sit down and test tonight.
To see all this activity in this thread made me want to do more on luxmax again.

I think we first should fix luxrender, then look at SLG after that.
I think Luxrender is most important to get up to speed.

I will check and debug the errors on startup in the c++ plugin, get it to compile with 3dsmax 2013 SDK, then progress we progress from there.
