LuxRender Windows CVS build of 12-08-2010

Postby Lord Crc » Thu Aug 12, 2010 9:20 am

Here's another cvs build for windows. Most important change is that Jeanphi fixed a bug which caused the path integrator to crash when using an environment light in certain cases, introduced by his big internal cleanup a week ago.

However the main thing is that I'm providing two builds: the regular one with "fast" math, and one with "precise" math. It seems that some part of the code is now very sensitive to numerical issues, which can cause problems when using the fast (and sloppy) math mode. Using the precise math mode helps, but it's slower... I'd appreciate it if you could report back how much slower it is, so we can judge if it's feasible to permanently use the precise math mode, or if we must hunt the elusive source of the problems.

In addition these builds are compiled with the new FreeImage 3.14.0 which includes updated libraries for png, exr and so on. There shouldn't be any incompatibilities due to this, but keep it in mind.

luxrender_CVS_120810_x64.zip
luxrender_CVS_120810_x64_precise.zip

luxrender_CVS_120810_SSE2.zip
luxrender_CVS_120810_SSE2_precise.zip

Again no SSE1 builds... if you would like one let me know, however be aware that it'll be the old wx gui.

For an example of what kind of issue the math mode fixes, take a look at the attached pictures... Your render starts out fine, but then suddenly gets filled with weird fireflies.

Good to know! Do you notice any drop in samples/second?
