c4D preference path grayed out

c4D preference path grayed out

I have c4d ver.9.6., a Mac Pro (Intel) and OS 10.5. When I try to set the preference path to the LuxRender application icon, the icon is grayed out. Could someone please tell me ,in great detail, which OS version and which c4d version I should download. I'm really looking forward to trying out LuxRender. Thanks
