Transparency Fail on RCv0.6?

Postby Reaversword » Fri May 08, 2009 9:39 pm

Yesterday night I was trying to render some diamonds. I only get black diamonds. So, when I get tired to try configurations, I did a search on the web. I found this:

viewtopic.php?f=11&p=16938

and I follow it. But result it's still black. I putted the Bidirectional eye and camera rays to 30 every one, so...

Then I saw this:

When you leave the transparency non black, configure the material, and reselect other object, and then go back to select the diamond object (or someone else object that haves the diamond material), the transparency automatically returns to black. If you have in the Maya visor the transparent object, you'll see how it lost its transparency.
If you don't do this, simply changes the transparency and immediately export the scene, result render is equally the familiar black diamonds. Can be this forced-black-transparency the bug that its avoiding us render diamonds or am I doing something wrong?.

Hail to forum.

Appears that after rendering all the night, I can see some colors and some transparents diamonds, anothers remains black. I suppose that I need more time and more test before write in forum.

I usually work and live in a non internet connection place, so it's possible i bring more feedback in one or two weeks.

Exist some documentation about luxmaya not based in the luxblend documentation?. For example, I know that in Maya for make an exit portal, I need write the chain "exitportal" in its name, but because I have readed it in the forum. How we can do a larger image from Maya?. From the Maya render settings?. How can we modify the focus distance manually and the focus area?. From the Maya camera activating Depth of Field?. Exist some individual guide explaining the "per software" particularities?.

Which materials are you using? You should use the 'Glass' type of LuxShader, and set the IOR/cauchyb parameters to match diamond. The only other thing to consider is that you have enough 'bounces' in the render settings. Diamonds are notoriously slow and difficult to render.

Yes. The 'renderable camera' and the output resolution are set in the Maya render settings.

Mosdt Maya camera settings will have no effect. DOF is 'always on' (unless 'infinite focus' is selected). If 'auto focus' is not enabled, then the Focal point is in fact the camera's CenterOfInterest point, and the amount of DOF effect is controlled with the fStop parameter. All these settings can be found on the LuxMaya GUI.

Not really, this needs some work, I admit.

Hi again Dougal2, forgive the delay. Like I said, I update myself on the internet from week to week.

Yes I had using Glass material, and the same configuration of IOR & cauchyb than in the Diamond LuxBlend Guide. I think the black diamonds of the final resoult were my gilt, I supposse I didn't that this diamonds in particular received enough light.

Thanks for answer all my questions, it is really rewarding come back and solve all the doubts at a stroke. Thank you very much.
