Loop subdivision and displacement added to wiki

Postby Piita » Sat Aug 04, 2012 9:46 am

Documentation about Loop subdivision and displacement was missing from the wiki so I put something together. This post will be used to host the example blend file that was used to create the example found in the wiki. If you have a suitable example please create a post in this thread for that example file and link to it from the wiki.
I'd like to add some links to details about the implementation. I assume the subdivision part is based on Charles Loop's thesis from 1987. Is this correct?
But what paper is the displacement part based on?

edit: added a new example blend file with regard to changes in the displacement direction in LuxRender v1.2

Nice work! I've taken the liberty to link the page from the main wiki page. :)

As to the questions, PBRT indeed refers to Charles Loop (1987). Furthermore, it states that weights, and improved rules for subdivision and tangents along boundary edges are based on work by Hoppe et al. (1994). I don't know if anybody here has touched the code though, if so I hope they'll make themselves known. :)
