Many rumours exist on that, but really, there is already a version beta of Softimage 2015 ..:). As for leaving it opensource .. well, perhaps one day let's be able to live in Mars ..:)

It's official. http://area.autodesk.com/softimagetransition

Softimage 2015 will be the last major release. No updates or support after April 2016.

Well.. Is hard to assume, but now the question is; is it reasonable to dedicate time to develop this integration? Someone can know the number of possible users? I'm tired of writing code that nobody uses.

Softimage is quite popular and I suspect the 2015 version will live on for a long time... Some will perhaps migrate to maya and some perhaps to max (or blender), but I think it will take quite a lot of time to do the switch for most artists/graphical companies.

I can't tell but someone on the Facebook group is asking for installation instructions: https://www.facebook.com/groups/luxrender/

Hi all,

I reopen this thread because, as tomb said last year , Softimage is still popular ;)

I'm working in a french 3D studio , and we're still using Softimage.
We're currently working on a project that includes a lot of render,
and we're very interested in the GPU capabilities of Lux.

Do you think an update of the XSI exporter will be available one day for LuxRender 1.5?
Or did you definitely stop the exporter development?

Thanks,

Exporters for Lux a mostly developed by third party volunteers, and developing for commercial 3d packages is hindered even more by the need for a commercial license. So unless someone (with the necessary prerequisites) steps up and starts working on the XSI exporter, it won't happen.

Hi,

thanks for this response.
I suppose, if we choose Lux for this project , we could continue the exporter dev..

Thanks again

In that case, be sure to check out the LuxCore API.
I don't know how much code you could port from the old LuXSI. Maybe it's better to start from scratch using the LuxCore API.
Just my thoughts, I don't know about the state of LuXSI.
