bump mapping

Postby ThorntonJ » Thu Jul 12, 2012 7:30 pm

this is generally a simple task, and i was able to do it back in 2.49b, but am having trouble. i want to bump map. i have read the documentation, but i am having trouble understanding it, dont ask me why, i really dunno.

i need the bump map to ONLY show up in lit areas, though no one will likely notice anyways.

im adding buffing scratches to a lambo im working on, i just want the added realism, whether anyone will ever actually notice or not

Just create a Image Texture (Using blenders one) or an Image Map Texture (Using LuxRenders texture) and assign these to the bump map part of the LuxRender Material properties (near the top of the materials panel).

Setting the value to 1 will bump it my 1 meter, so choose the distance wisely :P 0.001 for a mm

usually when i bump it... it turns my preview ball matte shadded and makes it half lit, half shaded, to major extreems, and thats why i am posting

Usually that's from using too large of a scale. Again, value like .01-.001 is usually what you will use.

imm trying to replicate buffing scratches, so would it support as little as .0001? (a micro meter)

It will, but depending on material properties, lighting conditions and distance from the camera such tiny bumps could be not visible.

As well as how long you want to render it.

If you can get this sort of effect showing up you deserve cake :!:
