Reconnaissance

Postby MadSwede » Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:15 am

Hello

Some of you know me from the indigo forum, but here's a short introduction in any case: Young lazy artist with a scraggly beard, residing next door to nowhere. :)

This is my first serious attempt at using LuxRender.
All modelling done in Blender (2.48)
Exported/Rendered with a recent CVS of LR/LB (can't remember which one).
Some retouch in PS.

C&C are welcome.

lol, I love you already! ...those robots are invading my desk, they in fact flowed out my monitor and started trashing my stuff, wtf!!

Seriously, heh....you used the copper preset for the metal texture?

Its looks great.

Really I just like the idea behind this, made me laugh, a gift really.

Insane robots are investigating my stuff!!!! help.......

Thanks, I needed a good laugh. :)

Thanks!

The cupper material is a mix between the cupper nk (bumped with a mix between voronoi and clouds) and a dark matte, using a blender musgrave procedural for the mask. I tried to achieve a sligtly tarnished look.

I really like the idea and the way it's worked out. But I couldn't help to make it a bit brighter. Somehow the image has a too dark/matte feeling to it. Perhaps the grey background makes it also a bit dark/matte, perhaps even a bit boring.

I hope you don't mind, but I edited the image to show you what I meant. See attachment.

Yes, I agree that it's a little dull, but I'd already increased the brightness quite a bit and I didn't want it too burned out. I guess it all comes down to taste. Still, thanks for the suggestion, I don't mind at all.

I love it. The pad of paper looks great too. A very well done scene.

I like it. Simple, clear and there is place for interpretation.

Very nice. We could start some desk wars: my stapler, robot, and fan against your table top. Tableaus like this are fascinating and a great way to finesse lighting and camera angles.

Your robots remind me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it. Plumbing, obviously, but there's something else ...

Very nice work, good to see new users using procedurals :)

Thanks, I forgot to give the papers volume but it didn't seem to matter. And of course, it would have doubled the number of vertices.

Thanks, that was my intention.

I wanted to make a robot without extremely disproportionally small ball-joints or glowing eyes. :) Something that was at least remotely plausible (provided someone can find some very dense coal and water). Given the boiler on the back, it would have to lumber leaning forward. Something in the back of my head is telling me that I'm just subconsciously ripping off Bioshock.

Procedurals were actually the main reason I tried Lux. Previously I'd been put off by rumours of high render times, but it just goes to show that you should never listen to rumours.

I've got to say that the material preview feature is simply [expletive] [another expletive] wonderful!
