thanks :D, for now I don't need help rendering. It's fast enough mainly because of the low resolution. Maybe I'll ask for help for the 'final' version :)

You're using the single volume integrator, right? (Multi will be rendering for ages on this scene)

yes, single volume integrator. I noticed that this same scene, on the same pc, renders much faster with rc1 than the rc2.

Could be your light strategy? Is your efficiency higher with rc2? Does setting light strategy to "one" manually get the speed back?

Hi,

It could also be the new protections on volume computations, but I wouldn't expect the impact to be that noticeable.

Sorry for old thread bump, but this is worth it :D
Enki helped me render out a carbonfluxed version of this old scene:

The volumetric effect is now very nice. Even 10 000 samples are not enough in this case to clear out all the noise.
