Oil Field Storage Tanks

Postby Jarred » Wed May 09, 2012 8:13 am

This is my first post here, so hello! I am working on a mock up of a potential oil field site for a local company. I am very new to using Lux Render (yesterday was my first attempt). I am not 100% done modeling this. I am increasing amount of grass in the foreground, and will also be adding some trees and shrubs. Any suggestions on modeling/rendering? I would like the light to look a little more natural. I might try my hand at some HDRI a little later. Currently this is just setup with Sun+Sky. Everything modeled in blender 2.62.

A nice render :) The added grass/trees will certainly make the area more realistic, but that looks good so far.

The one thing I have an issue with is the scale of the fence, it seems that the wire pattern is too large, a fence that is probably a persons height would have more of the squares.

not bad, i suggest putting some poles at intervals on the fence, a wire fence could never stand so straight on its own in real life and try crafting a bit more detail on those tanks, too plain. ;)

I agree about the fence scale being off. I hadn't even noticed that. Thanks for the suggestion!

iKlsR - When you say more detail on the tanks.. do you mean texture wise, or actually modeling more pipes and valves? Adding poles to the fence was my next step.. :D

I would suggest a HDRI. That would give a more natural lighting and it would give a nice sky background as well.
Don't forget to put a gate at the fence too :)

Here is an update. I added some trees, increased grass, added more details to tanks etc..

Nice update :) I guess a material on the stairs (perhaps a dark metal one) could enhance it a little, but great improvments to the fence. MAke sure to use FireFly rejection for your final render :)

Hi,

Nice update, however since I work in the oil industry I can assure you that I've never seen installations with so few flanges and valves. It kind of makes the setup unrealistic to me.
