Hi all,

I'm a new Luxrender user since one week and like it very much!

I did a fresh checkout yesterday and compiled on Linux 64bit and found that exr environment images no longer give any light. If it's the only light in the scene, it renders black. This didn't happen with a version from one week ago witht he same scenefiles.

I reported this already on irc yesterday, but I thought I'd mention it here also for feedback as I guess my binary should be similar to the windows binary from Radiance.

Greetings, Sanne

### Re: *luxrender/luxblend CVS test version for windows*

I have found the same error on 3 different machines (2 with WinXP and 1 Win2000)

If I use the Blender Export script and choose and NK metal setting, it always says that the metal NK data cannot be found and defaults to aluminum. I am also getting an error with HDR files.

Here's my output:

Code: Select all
GUI: Changing working directory to: K:/PortableApps/Blender/.blender/scripts/bpydata/default.lxs[Lux 2008-Mar-17 14:26:34 INFO : 0] GUI: Parsing scenefile 'K:/PortableApps/Blender/.blender/scripts/bpydata/default.lxs'Loading Cimg Texture: 'k:\HDR\piece-nb-45.hdr'...[Lux 2008-Mar-17 14:26:34 ERROR : 14] Unable to read Cimg image file 'k:\HDR\piece-nb-45.hdr' : cimg::fopen() : File 'k:\HDR\piece-nb-45.img' cannot be opened for reading.[Lux 2008-Mar-17 14:26:34 WARNING : 0] Metal 'chromium' not found, using default (aluminum).[Lux 2008-Mar-17 14:26:46 INFO : 0] GUI: Updating framebuffer...[Lux 2008-Mar-17 14:26:47 INFO : 0] GUI: Framebuffer update done.

I get the same Metal 'xxxxx' not found error no matter what I choose and I get the same HDR error no matter which I use. I can use the same HDR files successfully in Indigo and Kerkythea so I know they are good files.

Hmmm,

Looking at the CVS log, I found that some metals got "lost" after the the metal material was modified to use the SPD class. The ones current implemented are: aluminium, amorphous carbon, copper, gold and silver.

And about the hdr image, well, the .HDR format that Cimg library can handle is not the Radiance HDR file format that you probably have there. The format it can handle is a kind of MRI format in which the .hdr is just a header and there is also a .img file with the actual data. Since Cimg can't find the .img, it gives an error.

While we don't have support for your HDR I suggest converting it to EXR since lux can handle it quite well.

PS: Searching for "cimg radiance hdr" now turned out luxrender.net as the first result Radiance you're a google bomber!

Thanks for the reply! That'll help me out.

Any indication when the other metals will be "found" and put back in? RC5?

hey,

lordcrc removed some of the default metals, and added support for nkdata files... (you can use the ones in the indigo distributions)
just use the filename of your nkdata file is the 'name' of the material.

he has'nt further elaborated on his development so i'm not entireley sure if this works %100, would be cool if you can let us know

there's a tool called 'hdr2exr.exe' which can convert your hdr's to exr's: http://news.povray.org/op.sqwcgufhcs6ys ... bolaget.se
