hey Binarycortex... if you can wait 10 min!
I will post a screen-shoot of the mixed used shaders!

Cute little feature I'd love: EXIF

Can Lux be made to write to the EXIF data of a file with render settings? Even some camera settings, such as focal length? (things like F-stop and exposure could get tricky. Doesn't Lux allow separate exposure times for the linear tonemapper and motion blur? Same with f-stop for tonemapping and depth of field?)

Not that this is a terribly useful feature most of the time....but it would cool. I'd love it if doing "Get Info" on one of my renders gave "Camera: LuxRender 0.8. Focal Length: 27mm. Notes: 3632s/px" or something like that.

Seconded, but until that happens...exif35

A new feature request for the Luxrender camera!

what do you think about to add to the camera a color correction filter... like lens filter, that works like a color piker!
or is there just away to do this? for example by adding a supplementary light... that can use a custom color to color correct the scene!

off topic:
@binarycortex
is there a way to get exif data from from an hdr/exr image! or they are just missing?

You can use the colourspace/whitepoint (whitebalance) setting to do this; However, an eye-dropper tool to pick the white colour would be an interesting addition to this system.

A better way to get the images out of LuxRender.

Maybe something like:

Code: Select all
Image =>
        Export =>
                Lossless =>
                        * HDR
                        * EXR
                        * TIFF (does it support 32bit?)
                Tonemapped =>
                        * PNG
                        * JPEG
                        * TIFF
                * Edit externally (would open the tonemapped image in PS or GIMP or an other graphics program)

Maybe don't put it in the "File" menu but rather in an "Image" menu to distinguish operations on the .flm itself ("File" menu) and operations on the visible image ("Image" menu).

Hi guys...
I have some ideas for new features:

1. Face rendering behavior

It would be nice if we can choose how we would like the face to be rendered:

a) single sided;
Regular and easier for rendering

b) double sided;
Act as volume with the light traveling through a given width.
Nice for creating sheets, leaves, cloths...

c) thickness;
Not just act as the one above but be rendered as a thick object.
Nice for creating glass panels, windows...

d) second face;
This one is a bit more complex, Lux would use two single sided faces, with normals to the same direction, to estimate the volume of the object. For instance, light pass through the first face and travel until hit the second one with the normal aligned with the previous. This would be the traveling distance for attenuation and refraction.
Nice for creating transparent containers with translucent contents such as: glass of wine, jar of water, swimming pool.

2. Light bounce limitation

Modo already have something like this. I understand that Lux is a physically exact render system but sometimes we need less precision and more image quality. What I want is that:

a) Choose the number of bounces;
Choose how many surfaces the light bounce.
It should be like: "0" (no indirect light), "1" (simple indirect light), "n" (more complex), "infinite" (the way it is today).

b) Choose from where SSS receive light;
Choose between: "only from emitters" and "from emitters and indirect light" (the way it is today).

Firstly, LuxRender already has a max-bounces feature. It is actually called maxdepth, and should be available in exporters under Integrator settings. The default is in fact not infinite (the integrator would never output anything if it was!!), but between 8-16 depending upon exporter and integrator. There is also the distributedpath integrator which allows a lot of fine tuning on bounces for direct and indirect lighting.

Secondly, SSS is not yet implemented, but I should imagine that it will only ever work as receiving light from everywhere, as LuxRender implements only complete GI algorithms (*handwaving*).

@ugosantana
I will add the first features request when I have understand how to edit the poll without to reset the votes!

about the second one for sss.... to me it seams to be more a biased work-flow feature!

about the first request...
the double sided material is a good idea just used by a lot of rendering engines...
very useful when working with imported 3d high complex geometry... that could have flipped normals or faces... that make editing the faces very annoying and endless!

the other ones... I find it also interesting!
