Ok this is an explanation of is going. First of all, the material is defined in such a way that there is a sharp color difference between reflected and and transmitted rays. This is a rendering with shadow rays disable, notice the difference between lighted and not lighted portion of the sphere (and the mess on the edge because of geometry normal and shading normal not agreeing on the side of the surface, aka the "terminator" problem):

Now this image with fake colors explain the 4 possibilities:

col.jpg

- Blue => reflected (side test based on geometry and shading normal agree), light is visible;
- Red => reflected or transmitted (side test based on geometry and shading normal disagree), light is visible;
- Yellow => transmitted (side test based on geometry and shading normal agree), light is visible because of numerical precision (i.e. the other side of the surface is too near and the intersection is not detected);
- Black => transmitted (side test based on geometry and shading normal agree), light is not visible;

The major problem at the moment is handling the yellow case.

I should have fixed the problem by improving the accuracy of shadow rays (i.e. in order to eliminate the "yellow" area). This is a rendering without the fix:

and this is with the fix:

It's going to be in 1.6 when it's updated (see the modification date).

the 1.6 windows binaries still produce the bug.
Could it be that they dont get properly updated?
