What would I need? Just what I find in the for_1.5 branch, or is something else also required?

I don't know how exactly LuxCore volume handling differs from LuxRender one. That's a question Dade can answer best I think.

Use with caution and make a backup of all files you overwrite (pyluxcore.pyd etc.).

If you want to compile yourself, start with these instructions: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=11368#p108553
But it requires some knowledge of compiling and using a version control system like mercurial or git.
