LuxBlend25: Download, installation instructions, issues

Postby dougal2 » Sat Sep 04, 2010 12:08 pm

There are no "packaged" releases of LuxBlend25 yet. The latest version is available from the source repository.

By far the easiest way to get started is to grab a blender build that is already bundled with the exporter from http://www.graphicall.org/

For others who don't mind the hassle of moving files about themselves, the instructions for getting and installing LuxBlend25 for use with Blender 2.5 are here: http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/index.php ... structions

Please report any difficulties or issues you have faced with installation here so that we can improve the documentation.

Cheers,
Doug.

Yes please.
May I also suggest stickying this and any other threads that detail proper installation and where-to-get-it please? That would be VERY nice. :D
I had at first only found the second page, and only just an hour or so ago found out about installing into the addons folder instead of just scripts, which of course made it work .... mostly and kind of
I also had issues with the whole 'relative paths' thing, but found the solution to that here as well.
However, I've only been able to successfully render ONCE. I can supply a .blend file if desired, but it's just a simple test scene with a plane, a sphere, and an inverted cone, with one meshlight.
The one time I got it to render, I had just adjusted the 'relatives paths' thing, plus had made other 'tweaks' (sorry i can't be more specific right now), had had problems getting it the renderer to start, so I closed and re-started blender, immediately opening the test scene. I checked to see that the settings were correct, hit F12, and violla! the renderer opened and started doing it's thing. Cool. I let it go for awhile.
Stopped it, closed the console window. Changed ONLY Bi-Directional to Instant Global Illumination, saved, hit F12, nothing happened. The blender console reports something about failed I/O trying to open a closed file.
I have subsequently tried closing and re-opening blender again, immediately opening the file, and hitting F12, but it STILL won't start up again. hmmm
I'm using builds of blender and the exporter that I downloaded just yesterday.

system:
Athlon XP 1800
Radeon X700 (256M)
1Gig RAM
Win XP SP3
etc ...

I've just installed LuxBlend followin the instructions on the wiki. I find the entry for LuxBlend in User Preferences -> Add-Ons -> Render (not at Import/Export), but I cannot enable it. Clicking on the check box happens nothing. Have you any suggestions? I use Blender 2.53.1r31692.

Can you (and also anyone else reporting issues) please post the output of the blender console ? That will help us pinpoint the issue exactly.

Well, finally I found the solution. I copied the files and subfolders of the src\Luxblend\ into the addons folder ; not the LuxBlend folder itself. Now I could activate Luxblend.

There is a folder named "luxrender" in the "src" folder. You have to copy the "luxrender" folder to the addons folder. (My problem was that the first time i copied only the content of the "luxrender" folder to addons...)

i'm having trouble installing luxblend.
i'm using blender 2.53.0 r'30581' 64 bit on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
(download file name: blender-2.53-beta-windows64.zip)

i've followed the instructions on http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/index.php ... structions.
i've copied ef and luxblend to C:\Users\wouter\Desktop\blender-2.53-beta-windows64\blender-2.53-beta-windows64\2.53\scripts\addons\
but in user-prefs>add-ons ther's a new entry named "ef" i check the box and nothing changes, also the entry does not expand when i click the arrow.

console output:
blender_console_output.png
png format blender console output

(i could not select or copy the console text)

any idea what i'm doing wrong? :?:

You should try with a newer Blender build. 30581 is too old. something like 31744 is more appropriate.

I found that putting the relevant files into Scripts/Addons generates the following Error after exporting the lxs files :
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/Desktop/darwin-x86_64/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/2.53/scripts/addons/luxrender/core/__init__.py", line 321, in render
self.render_start(context)
File "/Desktop/darwin-x86_64/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/2.53/scripts/addons/luxrender/core/__init__.py", line 433, in render_start
bpy.ops.ef.msg(msg_text='Starting LuxRender')
File "/Desktop/darwin-x86_64/blender.app/Contents/MacOS/2.53/scripts/modules/bpy/ops.py", line 162, in __call__
ret = op_call(self.idname_py(), C_dict, kw)
SystemError: Calling operator "bpy.ops.ef.msg" error, could not be found
However when I move the Luxrender & EF folders to Scripts/IO it works fine, as does setting up an external scripts folder.
Also be sure to deselect Relative Paths when setting the path to Luxrender.app

MacBook Pro 10.6.4
Blender 2.53 r. 31768
luxblend25-50b11725035f
exporterframework-d492018
Lux 0.7 & 0.8

PS: Jens combined download is awesome and comes with Pylux!!! Unless you have to have the very latest Build, go with this.
