| Summary | 0001221: Crashing after scene loads | ||||||||
| Description | Greetings. I downloaded the rc1 with material fix this evening after successfully using the rc1 release version in a test scene. With this issue, the scene loads as normal, but in the very initial tonemapping, all info in the data line reads 0's, then initiates a complete system crash, only recovery method is a hard reset/power interruption. Strangely, rolling back to previous versions has had the same effect; complete system crash. | ||||||||

I believe I found the problem. I swept out all my Lux copies except the new RC1 and loaded the same scene, this time unchecking the IBL tap (using Realtiy plug-in 2.2.120). Scene loaded fine and began rendering as normal. I canceled, checked the IBL tab, and once again the previous issue of crashing terminally resulted. IBL issue? |

Sorry, additional update. After doing several consecutive tests, I've found the problem definitively. In order to avert crashes, I had the Task Manager window open while Lux loads the scene. After all is loaded, the tonemapping commences, where the system RAM is quickly gobbled up by Lux until it crashes the entire system. Event was consistently related to RAM consumption in 15 of 15 trials. |

How large is this "Strage_orange_sky_IBL_Env.hdr"? Also, GPU rendering can chew up a lot of RAM if you have a simple scene, you might need something with more geometry to make it useful. |

How much ram does your computer have, and do you use the 32bit version of Windows? |

Hiya gents. Thanks for the reminder in the Reality thread at rendo. I remember getting one email about this some time ago and forgot to get back, obviously. Anyhow, for J, the IBL in question is 75.7kb. I have since had better luck with other HDR's and EXR's from HDRlabs. I have been using either the ENV or REF files, depending on either needing just light info or an actual background, file format respective. Crc, My system in 64 bit with 12gb DDR3. Unrelated to this note, I'm using RC3 with no ill results with regards to IBL's. Something has certainly changed for the better since RC1, or how my rig handles such things. |

So you can't reproduce it any more? |

No sir, it's not crashing now, so either the Lux updates between then and now fixed it, or Paolo's last update cleared things up. I have been using Reality's memory conserve function on scenes larger than 2gb though, which seems to greatly effect stability for the better. I've also updated the nvidia video drivers a few times since the issue began. I still have crashes related to using GPU acceleration only, not slg. In the log, all loads fine until it gets to my video cards entry, then lux terminates. Calling from the scene file has the same effect. |

Could you upload a small test scene which crashes in GPU for you? |

I'm resolving this, if you have a scene which crashes please reopen this and attach it. |
