Can Someone Export Smoke For Me?

Postby Meelis » Sat Jan 21, 2012 10:31 am

Hi :)

I need to get 1 smoke frame exported to LuxRender volume format but i don't know how to.
I have 7ziped the 2 BPHYS files (frame and voxel) http://www.upload.ee/files/2003745/Smoke_Frame.7z.html
If you can export and send me back all the exported LuxRender files, it wold be great.

EDIT i don't need exporting anymore. I succeeded on my own.

Hi!
What is the problem with your export? Are there any error messages in the log?
For exporting the smoke data I need additional information. Could you provide the .blend file?

What are the dimensions of your smoke domain object?

You can get the dlls needed for smoke here:
luxblend25_smoke_dlls_x86.zip
luxblend25_smoke_dlls_x64.zip

Just place them alongside pylux.pyd.
May contain traces of nuts.

Hi

I don't remember the error now, i baked the smoke some months agoo or so.
I had the dll's, maybe they were older or the new blender works better. I give another try.

Here is the blend http://www.upload.ee/files/2005761/Smoke_500k_100x5_Final2.7z.html
I wanted to simulate fog in the camera field of view but it didn't bake (so i scaled smoke objects by 10 and baked the smoke sim).

Also i want to use BiDir so maybe i tune absorption of smoke very low and use it inside fog sphere for shadow or so.

Thanks for the .blend file. I will export the smoke and send the luxrender files to you. You should try to export it on your machine with the dlls Lord Crc provided and post the error messages if it doesn't work.

EDIT:Ok, export runs fine here but the resulting lxv file has about 1,45 GB. So uploading is not possible. One thing I observed is that the export needed much of RAM, i.e. ~14 GB. So this could be a limitation.

WOW  14 GB, i don't have that much memory.
Now i don't get error, it just wont export.
I used this blender http://graphicall.org/82 and given DLL's

Maybe u can 7zip the 1,45 Gb file with 7zip's LZMA ultra compression (i can decompress with 5GB memory use).
If it doesn't go small maybe PPMd compression method can get it small.

EDIT
If rendering of this smoke is not possible with 6Gb or 8Gb of memory, then i'm not interested of this file. :?

The resolution of the smoke simulation is very high, i.e. 100*5=500. Do you need such a high resolution? A lower resolution will decrease the memory consumption.

Maybe 125*2 might be ok.

Was there something wrong in my blend file, did you change anything before exporting?

No, all was ok. But the export needed much RAM and ran several minutes. A lower resolution needs much less RAM.

For the 100*5=500
how high was the memory use for rendering after export?
Is the exporting process only bottleneck or is the 500 res too high also for rendering?

Also when i scale domain down, do i need to rebake simulation.
I can spare additional ~2Gb just for smoke data rendering and 5-7 Gb for bake. What's the max resolution i can handle?
