SLG cfg parameters?

Postby MCMXC » Sat Jan 14, 2012 11:11 am

Hi, I have looked around the wiki, but I could not find an explanation of the parameters of the cfg file for SLG.

I wish to know the settings and the changes that can be done to them to find what can fit better my card(For example, is METROPOLIS the only supported sampler? Are there other choices?). Is there some documentation about them, please? (The cfg file is created by Reality)

And... is it normal that SLG 2.0 is slower than 1.8? On my Radeon 6950 FLEX I got 6763K from 1.8 and 4507K from 2.0(PathGPU2 used).

Thanks in advance.

You are probably comparing apples and oranges: you are probably comparing SLG 1.8 INLINED_RANDOM sampler with SLG 2.0 METROPOLIS sampler. Try to switch SGL2 to INLINED_RANDOM too:

Code: Select all
path.sampler.type = INLINED_RANDOM

METROPOLIS sampler is slower but it generates less noise. Choosing between one or the other is related to how complex the scene is.

Yes, that was one of the wikis I took a look, and was really basic:( No good at all:(

Uhmmm... I made my test using the same cfg for both versions, and in both cases the sampler was METROPOLIS...

...but this answered to my previous question "Are there other samplers?", thanks:)

The parameter used to define the kind of sampler has no meaning for SLG 1.8 and it is ignored. SLG 1.8 supports only one type of sampler, the one called INLINED_RANDOM in SLG 2.0.

Yes: http://src.luxrender.net/luxrays/file/5 ... pes.h#l114

INLINED_RANDOM, RANDOM, STRATIFIED, METROPOLIS

The interesting one are INLINED_RANDOM and METROPOLIS.

...can be possible in the future to have a LowDiscrepancy too? That's because in my pictures gives me the best results... :oops:
