I'd add a slightest greenish/blueish tint to the cavity parts. Then it will be really finished.

This is a magnificent looking material!
I agree with SATtva that adding a slightly greenish tint would round it up.

Ok, I think I got it. The patina required a mix of the darker bronze with a very light green matte material. Then I mixed the bronze with the patina mix.

So my materials look like this.
bronze mix (mixed with a high contrast AO map)
bronze (metal2)
dark bronze (metal2)
green patina (matte)
patina mix (1st slot is dark bronze, 2nd slot is green patina, mix is 0.3)

Damnit, that's nice! :D

The more I see great materials coming, the more excited I get.

You guys are awesome, keep it coming!

We definitely need a bigger LRMDB2 (in the sense of having more great-looking materials for anyone to use), IMHO this is currently the only weak point of Lux compared to its competitors.

I have to say this is one of the best material ideas I have seen, it really does look like it has "textual history" rather than just being "cleverly random," Using AO maps is genius.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I made another discovery today. If you check the "normalized" checkbox when baking an AO map it helps the contrast issue by making the white parts white instead of grey. The grey caused the whole thing to be covered in part by the patina, which might be a good thing if that's the effect you are going for. In my case, it's not what I wanted.

I'm still working on the tonemapping settings, so if the tonemapping looks a bit different from the last one, that's why.
The effect is not as pronounced in the shallower creases, but I think this actually might be more natural looking.

Apparently your AO map needs a margin of at least 1 or you get seams on your image.

Ok, I have been asked how I did this again. After reading through this, it's not entirely clear. So here goes.

First you will need an AO (ambient occlusion) map. This will be used for the mix amount between the bronze and the patina. It is also used to control the roughness so it's nearly matte where the patina is and shiny on the bronze.

The bronze itself is nothing more than metal2 with a color.

The dark bronze is also a metal2 with color.

The green patina is matte with a color.

The patina mix is as follows.
