Back In The Days at Grandma's House...

Postby jamminwolf » Mon Aug 22, 2011 10:52 pm

2nd full render in Lux, using LuxRenderDS, free converter for Daz Studio. Just learned the trick for glasses, and OOOO My goodness I wasn't prepare for a render this long. 40 hour renders as apposed to average 1 & a half hour was a big sacrifice. But, I did know that it takes a very long time for Lux to render, especially on a 32bit, 2 core 2.4gh, 3gb ram system. So I took great advantage of Lux's advantage on this.... different lights!! I had so much fun with these lights. This (or should I say these) render was done 4 days after I started LuxRenderDS/Lux. I did have a big mess to clean up (fireflies) from the glass and all that reflections (can you tell I love reflections?). Still learning and loving Lux, got some awesome sexy images at my DeviantArt page (don't know if I can link them or even load full or half nude images here, sorry).

Anyways, here are 3 of my favorite "Grandma's House" images using Kelly Lodge from Daz3D. The "morning" image was also post worked with this "dreamy" type effect.

Enjoy!

Thanks a lot, CL88! :) Yes, they're all just a tad noisy still, I simply wasn't waiting any longer when that 40 hours reached, regretted playing with a bunch of glass/reflections just yet lol, needed my computer back! But the fix was bearable (though lots of post work for each images) and the quality was an exception for the fact that this was my second full render with Lux. If I get a 64 bit higher power computer, I'll probably pick the scene back up and re-render, adding a few more things :) Thanks for your encouragement, friend! :)

Oh, forgot to add, also I had a mesh light doing the lighting (besides IDL) and I learned that using the sun makes renders go faster, so that'll help this next round :)

do you know about effectiveness? it show up in bottom of lux render window in percentage, maybe for your scene this value is too small? did you use light portal?

I have wondered about that, right now I'm doing a render and it says 640% EFF, what's that mean? I did use light portal... **thinks** I think, can't remember if I used it then or another scene but I know I learned about it at that time. I sorta got that concept, it says it won't take up resources from outside the scene, yet it still renders what you can see outside. Does that mean it won't collect data on what's not viewable? Does it only have to be for windows or can you make a "U" around the sides/back of the camera as well as a top one where it's not visible? Don't really quite get the concept.

I'm not exactly sure about how it work, but when i render room like in your image with portal beside a window, Eff show me something about 2000%, same scene without portal show me about 250%. and rendering speed was very different. and i think it works only for room-like scenes, i tried use portal on outdoor scene and i didnt noticed the difference
here a tutorial where i learn about this http://www.blendercookie.com/2011/07/07 ... luxrender/

Thanks a lot, friend! Strange it only works on covering "openings" but doesn't work on outside scenes.
