What became of hybird direct?

Postby J the Ninja » Sun May 22, 2011 1:07 pm

At one time, hybrid supported the direct lighting integrator as well as path. This was apparently removed from the core at some point. Any reason in particular? It would actually be rather useful for quicker previews, IMO.

Hi,

Uh? I don't think direct lighting ever got hybrid support.

SLG had support for a DirectLight hybrid rendering mode. It was just Path render mode with a parameter set to 0. SLG2 PathOCL (alias PathGPU2) has also a control to limit the count of path bounces over diffuse surfaces. This works like a DirectLight integrator if set to 0 (1 is quite interesting too: very fast and still offer some GI).

It is trivial to add such parameter to Lux Hybrid Path ... the question is when/where add the parameter (i.e. wait for v0.8 release, a new branch, SPPM branch, etc.) :?:

Hi,

v0.8 is probably due next week-end if RC4 goes well, so better wait after the release.
