I would change some lights, the atmosphere is like in a museum at the moment (but if you aimed for that, it's good this way too :) ).

Yes, instancing (and no GPU rendering). Because of the rendering time, I will not render it again (but the atmosphere is so because of the film I think).

Yes, indeed, there is a lot of post-production : here is the original image (I don't remember witch one of the two I used).
I used Darktable for the post production (http://www.darktable.org/).
