Anodized Aluminum Test

Postby binarycortex » Wed Apr 13, 2011 6:58 pm

JtheNinja commented that it would be hard to make an anodized aluminum texture. I took this as a challenge.

The material is close, the roughness is not quite right. My colors are off and the shot glass walls are too thick.

EDIT: This can be done with either glossy or shinymetal.

Those look really good to me, even tho you had to use "fake" metal heh...I have seen cups like that irl and they look very close.

Great binarycortex, thanks for the settings :)

P.s. i would just make the caps more edgy, like in the reference pic.

Shouldn't Anodized Aluminum have some kind of anisotropic BRDF ?

Isn't having uroughness != vroughness sufficient for that effect?

It should, I didn't noticed the settings, I based my impression on the rendered image, may be is just the kind of object used. To be sure, we should try this material on a sphere.

Hi,

Even with uroughness!=vroughness, the result will look smooth. To get a more real feel you need to add a bump map or to texture the roughness.
