Downloading as I type!

So, we should use your pylux of Feb 10th with the RC1 LuxRender of Feb 14th, yes? 8-)

Jup, the weekly and RC is 99,999% same, but it would be nice to have the RC tested ( + installer ).

What information is in the crash log? Are you using the bundled Luxblend25, or a newer one?

Hello Jens!

I'm working with your builds for quite a while now. Great work and many many thanks with sugar on top for doing that annoying building work for us!

As I do some screencasting from time to time, I wonder if it would be possible in some way to get this key stroke display skript (-> http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=181703) to work with your builds, as in the current version it will show up in addons-tab of user-prefs, but you actually can't activate it (no effect by clicking in the checkbox).

You must be aware thar due blender api changes there is always the need to keep versions matched ( see api version rev ).
So without looking into sysinfo, i can just say, if you have a blender thats works with that screencasting addon, find a luxblend2.5 that fits too.

That said : latest Blender svn( > 34855 ! ) + latest screencasting addon + latest LB25 should do.
( look in your blenders splash, it shows you now a api range like: r34855:36183M , first numbber is the latest api rev., second the svn rev. )

Procedure:

1. simply get a zip from: http://src.luxrender.net/luxrays/archive/tip.zip ( don´t unpack ! )
2. in Blender goto: Preferences --> Addons --> install addon.
3. activate addon.
3 copy pylux into luxrender addon ( get pylux: http://www.luxrender.net/release/pylux/ ... ntel64.zip or http://www.luxrender.net/release/pylux/ ... ntel32.zip )

Note: i personally recommend installing the external addons into: <userhome>/Library/Application Support/Blender/2.56/scripts/addons + ! set user_path for scripts to it !
But there is a bug in blender ignoring user_scrpts_path whereas install of addons, always adding then into the app-bundle, so this must be done manually.

One more thing: i made compiling on OSX now super-easy, if you a bit adavanced user, perhaps give it a try.

I was afraid of you saying something like that. :(

I tried that:
1. I downloaded that zip you mentioned and left it unpacked in Download-folder.
2. In Blender (2.56.2r35136 - from graphicall works with screencast tool) I went to prefs -> addons and installed the downloaded .zip-File
3. Not possible to activate luxrender/luxrays-addon, as it doesn't show up in user prefs->addons-tab -> nothing to activate there
4. I unpacked pylux.zip to pylux.so and copied that to /user-home/Applications/Blender/blender.app/MacOS/2.56/scripts/addons/luxrays-111bcc527f7e (no luxrender addon to find)
5. I restarted Blender and tried to find/activate luxrender-addon, but doesn't show up in addons-tab of user-prefs.
6. Also I set the user-script-path to that Library-Folder in user-home you mentioned and placed the screencast-tool in there (that in particular works fine)

jensverwiebe wrote:One more thing: i made compiling on OSX now super-easy, if you a bit adavanced user, perhaps give it a try.

Not, if I can avoid that in any way.

Edit:
I finally got it running. But therefore I had to unpack the tip.zip, place pylux.so in the luxrender-folder of unpacked tip.zip-archive and then placed this luxrender folder manually into the hidden .../blender.app/MacOS/2.56/scripts/addons folder. ;) Now both are working: luxblend25 and screencast-script, but unfortunately there is no more SLG. :( I've been using it for getting into the habbit of working with GPU-based rendering, because the hybrid-mode of luxrender isn't working with my MacBook (Logfile says invalid group size for GPU, which is a GT330 with 512MB), but SLG does a great job (besides that known issue with rendermode 3 distributed GPU-Path or similar I think) in particular for getting HQ preview renders.

Thanks for giving advice!

mfG,
Thomas.

Hi

To clarify:

Blender has 2 positions where addons can be found:

1. The fixed in the app.bundle ( Blender.app/Contents/MacOS/2.56/scripts/addons or
2. the user_scripts_path, which you set in preferences.

The Blenderaddon_ install will happen atm inside Blender ! ( i have a patch for correct install but is not in Blender yet ), so you must have misread my instructions
to have it in user_scrpts by (unpack indeed) and manually install.

For the compatibility of screencast script, i have really no clue, sorry.

That was a bit of a fast shot! I better had written - it seems to run, but actually it doesn't. At first all looks great, everything is there in place as it should be and everything can be done in Blender. But when it comes to rendering, LuxRender crashes constantly every single time immediatly after opening the GUI, so I assume that happens during parsing the scenefile.

Ok. So far I did know.

This part I don't get. I read this as follows: If I use the "Install Addon"-Method by clicking the corresponding button in addons-tab of user-prefs, then Blender will install the addon in the fixed app.bundle rather than putting it in the user-script-folder. So if I want to place it in user-script-folder I have to manually place the scriptfile there.
My challenge is the luxrays-addon. If I do like you said and click the "Install-Addon"-Button and chose the packed tip.zip-file in upcoming file-browsing-dialoge, it will unpack and place the whole archive-content in the fixed app.bundle addons-folder. BUT the luxrender-addon does not show-up in addons-tab of user-prefs, so it cannot be activated and luxrender is not available.
If I unpack the tip.zip-file and place the luxrender-folder of that archive (after placing pylux.so in there) manually in app.bundle, I can use it, but luxrender crashes every single time as dicribed above (btw. Material-Preview works well there).
If I unpack the tip.zip-file and place the luxrender-folder of that archive (after placing pylux.so in there) manually in user-scripts-folder, it doesn't show up in addons-tab of user-prefs, so it cannot be activated.
If I do not just place the luxrender folder but the whole unpacked tip.zip-file in any of the scripts-folders (either app.bundle or user-scripts) it won't show up in addons-tab of user-prefs for activating.

Screencast script was placed in user-script-folder and works fine (with svn-build > 34855)

Hi all,

First post as newbie in this field of Blender/Rendering, but hoping to learn fast. Blender and LuxRender Forums will surely put a turbo on that process. Big Thanks You to all for that.
Have been testing (trying to run) Blender and LuxRender/SLG on MAC OS X10.6.6
Runs OK on MacPro 2008 17' with NVidia Processor (GT 8600M ?), Runs very OK on 27' iMac Quad Core i5 with ATI Radeon.
Just got brand new MBPro 15' 2.3 Ghz Sandy Bridge i7 with 8G Ram and AMD HD Radeon 6750 w 1G VRam.
Loaded the same Blender/LuxRender 10Feb package. Runs OK to render basic cube, but crashes completely (not even Force Quit access) when pushing 'p' to print result back to Blender. Not pushing 'p' but just 'ESC' brings back Blender normally.
Do I need to provide more precise info, and is there a form to provide this feedback ?
