Viscoelasticity - of course! How can Lux be a truly physically based renderer without support for viscoelasticity?!!

All right,

To those having issues recovering from the holidays, let me sum up the main points of my previous post in slow motion.

The clip below (click on "[ Play Quicktime file ]", in order to see the video) has been rendered with Blender internal, showing clearly enough (I hope) the viscoelastic effects referred:

[ Play Quicktime file ] Jellies-Blender.mp4 [ 3.39 MiB | Viewed 525 times ]

The main question here therefore is, what way the same sequence can be rendered using LuxRender, if possible at all.

Thanks,

b.

Hi,

Sure it can be rendered in luxrender too - why shouldn't it? You'll need to use the linear tonemapper though (to avoid inconsistent frames).

Hi,

It isn't as straight-forward as it looks. In order to ensure the air bubbles behave intact with the hosting object's geometry, one has to use features of the Blender particle systems, who seems to need further support by LuxRender.

Here are the widgets I use:

Of course, I'd deal with the implementation subject myself, just if I knew how to.

I'm pretty sure that blender 2.49 can handle that.

So it's an exporter issue then I guess?

I seem to remember a way of applying the simulation like any other modifier, back in 249 at least.
As far as the exporter is concerned I think it's just something thats missing from the API is all, once it is available I would hazard a guess that Dougal2 will have patched the exporter within a few weeks of the api update.

Hi guys,

Here is some more food for your critical thoughts. ;)
New tray of jelly candies, just rendered with roughglass material.

So what do you think?

These look a lot "softer" to me - nice work! You've got some issues with facetting on top of your cylinder, but apart from that it's very nice :)

There are some odd black dots around the blue one, I wonder if that means there is an issue with the roughglass material.
