Reality - DAZ Studio/Lux Interface be distributed by DAZ

Postby pciccone » Sun Aug 08, 2010 10:26 am

Hi.

I just wanted to let you know that DAZ3D has been so impressed about the results of Lux renders done from DAZ Studio via Reality, that they have decided to pick up the distribution for the plug-in. I had a nice talk with DAZ 3D CEO, Dan Farr, who told me how excited they are about this. They had some talk about unbiased rendering at Siggraph, considering some other solutions, but using LuxRender is what makes sense for them given the wide variety of users of DAZ Studio and the plan for support of GPU acceleration.
DAZ will be actively promoting Reality in the upcoming weeks providing excellent exposure of LuxRender to a segment of the market that is largely unaware of it. The discussion thread on DAZ3D has broken the 36,000 views in a few days and many, many readers have downloaded LuxRender for the first time.

I think that these are exciting news about Lux and a sign of how far this renderer has gone. Once again, I'm amazed by what the developers have achieved and I hope I'll be able to contribute to Lux more, once Reality is launched.

All the best.

I second jeanphi. Many thanks to you for promoting Lux in a commercial sector and for the great work on exporter/plugin!

I will, I submitted the plug-in to DAZ yesterday so they will go through a bit of QA and if everything goes well it should hit the "shelves" pretty soon. I'll post here the announcement.

Hey Paolo

This is great news! Any chance for a pre release version that we could run a few tests on?

Or do we have to be patient and wait for the official release?

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
At this point I'm in the middle of writing the manual and helping DAZ create the installers for both Mac OS and Windows. I need to stabilize the code so that they can certify the build and all that stuff. It shouldn't take long and in a few days it should be out. I'll post the official release here for sure. Please bear with me, I have barely any sleep :)

I don't remember if I posted here the video that I made about using it, here is the link: http://vimeo.com/13596578

Thanks again for the interest.
